Running a physical security business isn’t an easy task. It requires hard work, dedication, and most importantly, a plan. When you’re setting goals for your physical security company in 2023, it's essential to be thoughtful and strategic to achieve success.

Whether you're looking to increase team morale or drive new business growth this upcoming year, establishing goals is a great way to set your physical security business up for success. Here’s how you can get started.

Establish Team Goals

The first step in setting physical security business goals is to establish team goals. This means sitting down with members of your team and discussing the objectives that need to be met. It’s important to get everyone on the same page and create a plan of action that everyone can follow. Team goals can also help foster camaraderie among physical security team members and increase retention. Maybe your guards want to increase their training opportunities and certifications, or your operations team wants to streamline processes? Maybe your HR team wants to build better payroll and workforce management systems? Get input from all levels of your organization.

Hold Your Teams Accountable

Once team goals have been established, it’s important to hold your teams accountable for their progress. This can be done by setting regular check-ins with individual team members or having weekly meetings to discuss the progress of goals. Has your HR team identified their new software needs? Has operations worked on processes yet? How are those new training opportunities for your guards coming along? What resources do they need to achieve these goals?

Celebrate Success

It’s also important to recognize team members that are achieving their goals, as this serves as a great source of motivation for everyone. Reward people with recognition and awards when they accomplish their goals. This will help encourage others to continue striving for success. To use our previous examples, celebrate when someone completes training by publicly announcing their achievement and presenting them with a certificate. Public recognition was ranked as one of the top methods of retention.

Embrace Failure

It’s not always easy to reach business goals. Sometimes team members may fail to achieve their goals despite their best efforts. It’s important to embrace failure and learn from it for teams to stay motivated and continue striving for success. Offer team members feedback on what they could improve and offer advice on how to get back on track. That HR software didn’t get implemented on schedule? Don’t fret, keep moving forward. Reset expectations and push ahead.

Encourage Growth

Finally, always encourage growth within your organization. Provide opportunities for people to learn new skills and advance their careers. The key to keeping people in your organization is giving opportunities to expand their current role or move into new positions that might be a steppingstone for new responsibilities. For example, if you have someone that shows great leadership skills, coach and mentor them into a management position if that’s where they want to take their career.

Why Is Goal-setting Important?

Goal-setting is essential for all companies, as it provides an opportunity to map out objectives and create a plan of action. Goals can help provide focus and direction, while also allowing business owners and team members to measure progress and track success.

Additionally, goal setting among teams often helps build camaraderie and encourages retention, as colleagues work together towards shared goals.
